NATIONAL
? Income tax returns filed for the last financial year had more than doubled to nearly 30 Million.
? To make travel easier, Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport will soon have motorable wheelchairs for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM). The services are likely to be rolled out from mid-August.
INTERNATIONAL
? Five Indian students, including one from Mumbai, bagged a gold apiece at the International Physics Olympiad in Lisbon. This was the first time in 21 years that all five students from India won top honours.
? Immigration and border security officials across several countries are keeping an eye on travellers social media trail and looking up their online profiles to check for inconsistencies in information submitted to immigration authorities for visa processing.
BUSINESS
? The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has directed the Income Tax department to ensure filing all its petitions before the National Company Law tribunal (NCLT) by August 31.
? Infosys will invest Rs. 7.5 Billion in the first phase to build a 2.7 million square feet facility to accommodate 5,000 employees in Noida.
? Essel Infra-projects to invest Rs. 17.5 Billion in a phased manner to set up electric vehicle (EV) charging and battery swapping infrastructure in 20 cities of Uttar Pradesh.
LOGISTICS
? The perspective plan for the overall Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) Region has been prepared and 24 investment regions and industrial areas have been identified for development.
